House of today •
Ingrid would not have been born without the @houseoftoday team believing in me and giving me the chance to join the numerous local talents that I’ve always looked up to.
Thank you @cherinemagrabi for your mentoring throughout the process, we did it at the end! @jbustros and @carinenawbar for all of your hard work and multitasking while still keeping your cool.
The strongest team of women I’ve met with warm smiles and beautiful hearts, who work endlessly behind the scenes to put us, the designers, on the world map. •

Ghaith and Jad
Thank you @ghaithjad @ghaithag @jkmelki for checking up on me every few minutes during the events. I don’t know if it was intentional but I loved it. So glad I could share this moment with old friends. •
•
Interactions
People investigated Ingrid, touched, played and were intrigued with how she came to life. Thank you @boisseliers_du_rif for making it possible, for your patience, dedication and craftsmanship.

Shape and concept
In Top View, Ingrid takes on a circular shape.
Her perfectly symmetrical shape is interrupted by the middle non-uniform curve that flows from the front all the way to the back.
In Side View, Ingrid takes on a shell shape, grounding herself on one side and emerging to the other.
In Scandinavian, Ingrid means beautiful. This represents the beauty of the human interaction the table was inspired by. •
•
Process
It was very important for the storyline that the shell looked like it was made out of a single block of wood. It is in fact, not.
Several pieces of plywood were cut using the CNC machine, assembled and then covered with Japanese Tamo Veneer.
Veneer does not usually turn in such non-uniform directions without cracking, so it had to be retouched by a skilled artisan.
After the veneer was finalized, the rattan was fixed into place, the joints detailed and the piece finalized. •
•
End
The table is hollow from the inside, therefore very light and can be moved easily.
It is economical; no material was wasted.
It represents a beautiful marriage of contemporary manufacturing methods (CNC milling) and traditional furniture techniques of our ancestors’ (rattan weaving). •

Ingrid • The Story
————————————————————
At the end of the day, you go back home.
You take off your shoes and jacket at the door.
You go in.
You throw down your keys on the table, your groceries, your glasses, your books, your handbag.
You unload.
You sit.
You rest your tired feet on top of the table. You push her close, you push her away. At your own convenience.
You go to sleep. And the next day, you repeat.
We have humanized that table, likening her to our human experiences.
She is that person we vent out to. The person at whom we throw all our problems, and yet, she is always there, silently listening. She has her own wounds and her own scars. Maybe they are even caused by you. But she has stitched them up so nicely, that they are now a beautiful façade looking back at you. Ready for you all over again.

Revealing 2018 designers 🔸 Jana Aridi @janaaridistudio is a Lebanese architect and designer. She received her architecture degree from AUB in 2013, and in 2017, she completed her Masters in Product Design from Domus Academy in Milan.
Jana has always been fascinated with the handmade, the customized and the personal. Her designs, much like her architecture, are thoughtful, straightforward and raw, always true to the material used and the story they want to tell.
She uses different forms of expression to give life to her projects from simple watercolors, to paintings in powerful acrylic. Most recently she immersed herself in the art of hand-carving wooden spoons.
Jana believes that design should enhance the human experience. Design has the power to change people’s lives, both functionally and emotionally. Her aim is to make people interact with her designs, to make them happy, and to even to make them dream.
That is the role that she tries to accomplish as a human being and designer. 📸 Photo credit: @mikemalajalian #hotdesignbiennale #openingday #december14 @3beirut #lebanesedesigners #houseoftoday
